Radio 2 chief appointed
By CMU Editorial | Published on Wednesday 28 January 2009
Former Radio 5 chief Bob Shennan has been appointed as the new boss of Radio 2 and 6Music, taking over from Lesley Douglas who, of course, had to quit over all that Ross/Brand I fucked your granddaughter stuff.
The appointment will see Shennan return to the Beeb after a year away from the Corporation – he spent some of that time helping develop Channel 4’s fantastic network of no radio stations.
In his new role running the nation’s biggest radio station and its digital serious-music sister channel, Shennan will report to the BBC’s Director Of Audio & Music Tim Davie, who said of the appointment: “Bob is an outstanding leader with extensive radio experience and a proven track record in station management. Bob’s energy, enthusiasm and passion for Radio 2 will ensure that the station remains creative and vibrant”.
Shennan himself added: “Radio 2 is the cornerstone of UK Radio. 6 Music is at the forefront of digital radio. It is a privilege to be asked to lead the extraordinary creative forces of both stations”.
