As Clear Channel puts ever more effort into competing in the digital music space with iHeartRadio, even exploiting its AM/FM business to get better rates, another major radio player in the US, Cumulus Media, is instead going digital via an alliance with Rdio.

Under the deal, Cumulus will take a stake in Rdio parent company Pulser, and will then promote the streaming music service across its network of radio stations, and sell advertising around the digital set up’s freemium option in the US.

Rdio presumably hope the deal will help them gain further traction in the US market, both in terms of subscribers and advertisers, while for Cumulus it gives the radio firm a head start in digital versus setting up their own iHeartRadio competitor.
