Rdio launches Vdio
By Andy Malt | Published on Thursday 4 April 2013
Having put it into private beta last November, Rdio has now officially launched its video offshoot Vdio. As previously reported, the service is similar to Netflix, allowing users to stream movies and TV shows.
Many are already predicting that the only safe future for music streaming services is to become part of a video streaming platform – a takeover of Spotify by Netflix one possible deal waiting to be done. In which case, Rdio’s move into video is certainly a shrewd move.
However, already trailing behind the aforementioned Spotify and Netflix in the music and video-on-demand sectors respectively, it may have an uphill struggle for market share. Still, it looks nice and has a good catalogue (the thing that lets down a lot of video-on-demand services), so it’s off to a good start.
Currently the service is only available to existing Rdio subscribers, who have all been given £20 of credit to get them started. If that includes you, check out Vdio here.
