And Finally

Reality sucks

So, drum n bass legend Goldie was the first celebrity to be voted off the BBC’s ‘Tedious Dancing Show’ last night, despite him wearing a rather dapper hat.

Both former footballer Peter Shilton and former-political-nightmare-turned-national-joke Anne Widdecombe managed to get more public votes to stay on the show. 1.00076 music stars now remain in the 2010 ‘Strictly’ competition, one time Destiny’s Child star Michelle Williams and one time pop chick Patsy Kensit (hey, I rather liked ‘I’m Not Scared’ thank you very much).

Meanwhile, on the other side, young people were watching nobodies sing. And those that managed to watch a whole 2.5 hours of ‘X-Factor’ without self-harming to such an extent that they no longer had use of their fingers got to send not one but two sets of wannabes home through the phone vote.

A dude called Nicolo Festo got axed on public vote alone, while the next two low-votes were, as custom dictates, put back before the show’s panel of judges, who decided to keep singer Katie Waissel and send home aspiring boyband FYD. They reckoned their groovy dance moves might have distracted viewers from their singing, though given the current rise of The Wanted it seems that to be a successful boyband in 2010 you need to be shit at both dancing and singing.

Elsewhere in ‘X-Factor’ news, Simon Cowell has confirmed his lawyers are helping axed ‘X-Factor’ wannabe Gamu Nhengu in her legal fight to stay in the UK. The singer was controversially (I’m told) dropped from the talent competition by judge Cheryl Cole last week, before the live shows section of the latest series. It was then revealed the wannabe is facing deportation back to Zimbabwe after there were problems with her mother’s visa application.

Despite achieving a feat much more impressive than getting through to the final stage of ‘X-Factor’ – having the British tabloids demand an asylum seeker be allowed to stay in the UK – the outcome of Nhengu’s case still hangs in the balance. Cowell told that tabs late last week: “We are helping Gamu and her family as much as possible. We have lawyers working with her lawyers, not because we have to but because I really feel for their situation, and that’s outside of the show”.
