Dum Dum Girls

Rounding up the latest release news…

Eminem‘s new disc ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’ leaked on Wednesday, a week early. Whilst in the interest of staying legal, I’ll have to sidestep linking to the leaked streams, I can at least give up this official preview of Eminem’s ‘TMMLP2’-inclusive ‘feat Rihanna’ track, ‘The Monster’:

A band praying their LP won’t go the same way as Marshall’s are Dum Dum Girls (pictured), who’ve just announced a new record titled ‘Too True’. Out via Sub Pop on 27 Jan, it is, says lead singer Dee Dee, inspired by, and itself echoes: “Rainer Maria Rilke, Anaïs Nin, Arthur Rimbaud, Paul Verlaine, Charles Baudelaire, Sylvia Plath; the punk poet singers Patti Smith and Lou Reed (who, like many, I consider to be my spiritual parents); and finally, an admittedly unhealthy obsession with the Surrealists’ manifesto of desire”.

Preview ‘Too True’ via its radiant alpha single ‘Lost Boys And Girls Club’ either as a garish clip made in partnership with H&M or on SoundCloud (I’d pick the SoundCloud option), here:

Still rooting in the bins of chart-facing alt-pop with ‘substance’, it’s Foxes, whose first album is to be called ‘Glorious’. It’ll be released on a TBA date in March 2014, but available to order in advance (in which case you’ll get free grat-track ‘Shaking Heads’) from 14 Nov.

As for the story of that title, Foxes, real name Louisa Rose Allen, says: “It’s been a long journey making this album and ‘Glorious’ was the last song I wrote for it. It’s about never giving up on something which I felt tied the whole thing together”.

Nice. Foxes single ‘Youth’ is out now, so listen and look to it, um, now:

And since it’s practically still Halloween, why not catch this scarily brill new Julianna Barwick clip in which, aided by La Blogoteque, she gives children in Reykyavik, Iceland, sweets AND treats them to a street rendition of her new song ‘Ash Day’:
