Joan As Police Woman

Rounding up the latest release news…

Ricky Wilson is to make some extra cash off of his stint coaching on ‘The Voice’ next year by releasing a new Kaiser Chiefs LP, titled ‘Education, Education, Education & War’. Wilson and band’s fifth overall, and first following main writer/rhythm provider Nic Hodgson’s quitting last year, it’ll be released on 31 Mar 2014. The KCs will also promote it by playing live and intimately at the Manchester Gorilla (11 Feb) and London Scala (13 Feb).

Cool label Young Turks has nonchalantly compiled a ‘greatest hits’ LP, the final part of its year-charting ‘YT2013’ series. Representing the best of its 2013 releases, which YT has deemed are tracks by The xx, Sampha, Koreless and Pional – plus exclusives by SBTRKT and approved artist FKA Twigs – it’ll alight in various formats on 9 Dec. Find all the info on it at this link, and look at this YouTube playlist of all the songs on the LP.

Joan As Policewoman has compiled a load of original songs onto a new player titled ‘The Classic’. Trailing 2011’s ‘The Deep Field’, it finds Joan (Wasser) “in the best place I’ve ever been in my life”, and will arrive in shops via Play It Again Sam on 10 Mar 2014, around the time Wasser is to play the first in a file of March/April dates listed in their totality here. Meanwhile, watch the new album’s title track in motion now:

And ooh, excitingly, Charli XCX has talked a bit about what her second LP might sound like, and apparently it’s silly French yé-yé, which is great news. See Charli chatting away via instalment #1 of her new video diary:

Finally and festively, the stars of ITV’s ‘The Big Reunion’, not least Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, 911, 5ive and Honeyz (and, when they don’t have anything better to do, Blue), have premiered the vid for their new single, which we’re letting get by unscathed because it’s for charity. The ‘TBR’ crew’s spin on ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day’ is released on 15 Dec in aid of ITV’s Text Santa appeal, and can be previewed here:
