Lana Del Rey

Rounding up the latest release news…

Ms Lana Del Rey (pictured) premiered a typically heady new single, titled ‘West Coast’, yesterday, giving the world its first sip of the poison pop chalice that is LDR’s incoming sophomore LP, ‘Ultraviolence’. It’ll be released as a single on 18 May, and is available to stream right here.

So stream it, right here:

Also, Sigur Rós have just taken the lid off a cover of ‘The Rains Of Castamere’ which, provided you aren’t an alien or a newborn baby, you’ll know is the recurring ‘harbinger of doom’ off of some TV show called ‘Game Of Thrones’. As was first confirmed last year, Jonsi and co followed the rockstar likes of Coldplay’s Will Champion and Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody by making an appearance on ‘GOT’, as a band playing the song at the marriage of Joffrey and Margary in ‘The Lion And The Rose’, the reigning second episode of season four, which aired in the UK last night. Catch ‘The Rains Of Castamere’, the Sigur Rós edit, now:

Those Disclosure boys have posted up a new track titled ‘The Mechanism’, a dual collaboration with Liverpool beatsmith Friend Within. The track had its digital release earlier today via Beatport, so you should totally download it right now. This is it:

As well as circling the festival scene as a single entity this year, Röyksopp & Robyn will also celebrate their “synergy” by releasing a mini-LP. Acting as an intro to Röyksopp’s TBC new record, the five-track ‘Do It Again’ will hit shelves on 26 May, preceded by its title single which is out on 28 Apr.

Considering the collaboration, Röyksopp say as one: “It’s the accumulation and embodiment of the synergy between Robyn and ourselves. We’ve intended this to be a diverse yet cohesive and thought through musical venture; it’s meant to be an expression where pop and art reign side by side”.

Art and pop going hand in hand? It worked for Gaga. Oh no, wait. No it didn’t. Anyway, find out if it works for R & R now, based only on one and a half minutes of ‘Do It Again’ track ‘Monument’:

On a graver note, Deftones have released a track to mark, to the day, the anniversary of the death of one-time bassist Chi Cheng. Cheng passed away in April last year, having been in a minimally conscious for several years following a car crash in 2008. The track, titled ‘Smile’, is taken from Deftones’ ‘Eros’ LP, which was the band’s last to feature Cheng’s playing. It was set aside after Cheng’s accident, and remains unreleased. Sharing ‘Smile’ via Twitter this past Sunday, Chino Moreno wrote: “Chi, We miss you today and every day”. Hear the song now:

Finally, to finish with something nice and ‘lite’-ish, ‘Fancy’ hitmaker Charli XCX has released a song titled ‘Boom Clap’, from the poppy score to actress Shailene Shailene Woodley’s new two-kids-in-love movie ‘The Fault In Our Stars’. Fall for it, or don’t, now:
