New York-based publisher Reservoir has made another acquisition – and this one’s quite a biggy – bringing a catalogue of 26,000 copyrights spanning seven decades to the company. The purchase is of First State Media Group, the catalogues of which include the songs of the Wind-Up, Dreamworks and Dimensional music publishing businesses.

Chrysalis, which is now part of BMG of course, acquired the administration rights to the First State catalogue back in 2010, and the European music rights firm will continue to administrate those works outside of North America for the new owners. Though Reservoir itself will take over that work in the US and Canada.

Confirming the acquisition, Reservoir President Golnar Khosrowshahi told CMU: “We are thrilled to represent the writers and the high calibre of works in the FS Media catalogue.Acquisitions like these provide the ideal combination of the scale and quality we consider when strategising the growth of our company. This deal is one of many more to come”.

Meanwhile the firm’s COO Rell Lafargue, who will now spearhead the integration of FS Media with the rest of the Reservoir company, said: “We anticipate a seamless transition. Through our numerous acquisitions, including TVT Music and the UK companies Reverb Music and P&P Songs, we’ve learned that these kinds of transactions are exactly where Reservoir excels. Our team and infrastructure are well positioned to take in catalogues, identify new creative opportunities, and see them thrive. We believe we will implement yet another successful integration, and that Reservoir will provide a lucrative long term home for this wonderful catalogue”.
