Rihanna to star in Ocean’s Eleven spin-off
By Andy Malt | Published on Friday 12 August 2016
You might have thought, given the reception the recent ‘Ghostbusters’ remake had, Hollywood might have decided against making any more films with female lead characters. Thankfully not, which is how Rihanna came to sign on to an all-female reboot of ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, titled ‘Ocean’s Ocho’.
That’s ‘ocho’ meaning eight, because who could think of a whole eleven women? According to The Hollywood Reporter, as well as Rihanna, producers have so far managed to hire Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and rapper Awkwafina. So they just need to wrack their brains for one more.
‘Hunger Games’ director Gary Ross is set to oversee the filming, while ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ director Steven Soderbergh will producer. The screenplay has been written by Olivia Milch.
As soon as all films have been remade with women in the lead roles, it’s thought that someone might consider going to the effort of coming up with original stories for major movies with female casts.
