Rod Stewart apologises for mock beheading video
By Andy Malt | Published on Monday 6 March 2017
Rod Stewart has apologised after his wife posted a video on Instagram of the musician staging what looked like a mock ISIS beheading video in the Abu Dhabi desert. He claims that it was intended as a re-enactment of a scene from ‘Game Of Thrones’.
There was outrage after Penny Lancaster posted the now-deleted video, in which Stewart pretended to cut the throat of a companion in front of him on his knees, while flanked by two others dressed in black. Stewart had been in Abu Dhabi to perform his first ever concert in the country, at the Du Arena, last Thursday.
In a statement, Stewart said: “From re-enacting The Beatles’ Abbey Road crossing to spontaneously playing out ‘Game Of Thrones’, we were simply larking about pre-show. Understandably, this has been misinterpreted and I send my deepest apologies to those who have been offended”.
Lancaster also posted a statement on Instagram, saying: “Rod and I are both devastated and he is extremely apologetic for the offense caused by his misinterpreted actions”.
