Single Review: Rod Thomas – Until Something Fits (Self-Raising Records)
By CMU Editorial | Published on Monday 2 March 2009
Guitar-based pop music of limited scope or value. Rod Thomas is a James Blunt-esque singer-songwriter. He is a lyrical dunce whose songs made me contemplate jumping out of my window and trying to land eye first in a pile of rusty nails. I am trying my hardest not to descend into an expletive strewn rant. Most likely to play a twenty minute set at Latitude and have his CD bought by mid-thirties cohabiting couples who constantly have discussions about children, when they’ll get married, and that long-planned move to the country. She’ll run away with the postman, and leave him with the CD. As there are an awful lot of people that fit this demographic, Thomas could be a musical cash machine. However, the blandness of each and every one of these songs constitutes a post-lobotomy level. I wouldn’t give this to my worst enemy. PG
