Rodriguez

Reissued almost thirty-five years after its original release, Rolling Stone favourite Rodriguez’s second studio album, ‘Coming From Reality’, is regarded as one of the most important psychedelic-folk albums of the early 1970s. Like Tim Buckley, Van Morrison and Bob Dylan, the musician born Sixto Diaz Rodriguez made music that spoke of the social conditions of the era, infused with intricate guitar-picking and rumbling, melodic vocal stylings. Finished with producer Steve Rowland (the man who later discovered The Cure), ‘Coming From Reality’ was recorded in London over the duration of a month and is, at once, both insightfully poetic and darkly original. Second track ‘A Most Disgusting Song’ is a noteworthy highlight, with its introspective, rhythmic spoken word delivered as a story; whereas ‘Silver Words?’, gentler and soaked with sparkling strings, showcases a more lucent side to the record. The re-release also includes three unreleased bonus tracks, ‘Can’t Get Away’, ‘Street Boy’ and ‘I’ll Slip Away’, recorded with ‘Cold Fact’ collaborators Mike Theodore and Dennis Coffey. TW
