Rough Trade’s Christmas sales up 20%
By Chris Cooke | Published on Friday 10 January 2014
Rough Trade Retail saw its pre-Christmas sales grow by 20% year-on-year, while online sales were up 47% following the relaunch of the firm’s website back in February.
According to Music Week, the independent music seller says that the bumper Christmas was the result of an “unswerving strategy of adding value without resorting to discounting” online and “a rewarding [in]store experience, curated product selection, authoritative recommendation, live performances and exclusive/bonus product”.
While Rough Trade co-owner Stephen Godfroy added: “Independent music stores across the UK are experiencing a sales uplift, with recent BPI figures of vinyl sales in 2013 testament to that fact. At Rough Trade, we continue to improve our percentages and cash margins, as we look to grow our business further in 2014”.
Which is all very jolly nice to hear. I expect you all to now exclaim a moderate but joyful “woo” to celebrate.
