The longlist for the first Scottish Album Of The Year Award was announced at the Wide Days conference in Edinburgh yesterday. As previously reported, the Mercury-style gong will hand over £20,000 to the Scottish band deemed to have released the best album of 2011, while nine runners-up will receive £1000 each.

Chief Executive of Creative Scotland, which is running the award in partnership with the Scottish Music Industry Association, Andrew Dixon told CMU: “In such a nation of music lovers, it’s no surprise that The Scottish Album Of The Year Award is such an eclectic and entertaining list and brimming with talent.
