Scottish Album Of The Year Award

A hoard of assorted Scottish artists, bands and orchestras have made the so-called longlist for this year’s SAY (which is to say, Scottish Album Of The Year) Award for the finest Scots LP of 2013.

The likes of Biffy Clyro, Edwyn Collins, Boards Of Canada, Mogwai, Young Fathers, Chvrches, Steve Mason and The Pastels are amongst the more known acts nominated (by 100 impartial ‘nominators’) for this year’s main £20,000, prize, which will be awarded on 19 Jun.

In the meantime, ordinary fans have the chance to narrow the list down to a shortlist of ten LPs, by casting votes via www.sayaward.com between 26-28 May. The SAY Award site will be streaming the 20 long-listed LPs online, one each day, from 28 Apr.

It’s now to look at the longlist, and read some appreciative exclamations from some of the names named on it. Like, say, Chvrches, Biffy Clyro and Edwyn Collins, since they (kind of) represent three different generations of Scotland’s contemporary artists.

First, relative wee bairns, Chvrches: “As is generally the case, it has been a wonderful year for Scottish music. We’re genuinely honoured and thrilled to see our album in the mix for The SAY Award”.

In the middle, it’s Biffy Clyro: “We’re delighted to be longlisted for The SAY Award, alongside some of our favourite Scottish artists!”

And up top, it’s auld (if only in comparison to Chvrches) Edwyn Collins: “I’m flattered and delighted, immensely so, for ‘Understated’ to be selected. This album was important to me, I felt full of confidence once more. Hooray for SAY!”
