Shazam announces new alliance to facilitate Latin American expansion
By Chris Cooke | Published on Monday 8 July 2013
“I wonder what that is” app maker Shazam has announced a strategic alliance with Mexican tel co America Movil, which will see the telecommunications firm invest $40 million into the digital company to fuel Latin American expansion, and further development of Shazam’s newer advertising and TV programme recognition services.
Although the investment will come in useful, Shazam Executive Chairman Andrew Fisher has told Billboard that there is much more to the alliance with America Movil, and its owner businessman Carlos Slim Helu, than simply cash, with his new partner’s infrastructure and reach in Latin America the real attraction.
