Single Review: St Vincent – Marrow (4AD)
By CMU Editorial | Published on Friday 20 November 2009
Still effortlessly cool and avant-garde, and with the breezy pop subtlety of before, St. Vincent remains a beautifully insightful, less contrived take on the Bat For Lashes school of nuanced, female pop performance.
Treading water for a whole minute before the percussive punch comes, ‘Marrow’ sees the calm before the storm, but can’t wait to get wet. Then it’s time for a Yeah Yeah Yeahs-style synth blitz to shake up the strings, and remember why we all loved that debut album.
Natasha Khan take note – you can still keep music intriguing and experimental, but also make it interesting too. TM
