Syco to launch YouTube-based talent contest

YouTube is partnering with Simon Cowell’s Syco for a global online talent competition looking for “unconventional and original talents” from a number of different disciplines.

‘The You Generation’ venture will run for a year, kicking off next month, with a different category of talent featuring on the bespoke YouTube channel every fortnight. The winner of each category will get a prize, with one big prize available for an overall winner at the end of the year, though it’s not yet clear what exactly all those prizes will be.

While music, photography and magic will all seemingly feature in the new YouTube initiative, so will cooking, possibly because Cowell is now into food thanks to his latest telly venture for ITV, ‘Food Glorious Food’. Though that enthusiasm for kitchen-based fun might be waning if he’s looked at the first edition’s ratings.
