The ten most-read news stories on the CMU site in June 2014
By Andy Malt | Published on Monday 7 July 2014
The most read news story on the CMU website in June was about new child sexual abuse charges against Gary Glitter. The former glam rock star is accused of abusing two girls between 1977 and 1980, including one count of administering a drug or similar in order to facilitate sexual intercourse.
Elsewhere, Google featured three times in different stories – one it was probably more keen on people reading about than the other two.
The indie labels’ battle against new licensing terms being forced on them by YouTube appeared in the form of a letter written by AIM CEO Alison Wenham to Secretary Of State For Business, Innovation And Skills, Vince Cable MP. You can hear more about the whole dispute in the latest edition of our podcast.
There was also a list of recommendations from MP and IP Advisor to David Cameron, Mike Weatherley, on how Google (and other search engines) could and should police piracy.
The other Google-related story was news that the company apparently bid for the 8track streaming service before talking to Songza, which it then bought for somewhere between $15 million and $39 million this month (depending on who you ask).
Leading our most-popular features in June were three Beef Of The Week columns, pitting Morrissey against Cliff Richard, Lana Del Rey against The Guardian, and Cam’ron against So Solid Crew’s Megaman. In fourth and fifth position were Approved columns featuring Sailor & I and Spooky Black.
