The ten most-read news stories on the CMU site in September 2014

Hey, it’s time to run through another list of popular news stories on the CMU website during the most recently completed calendar month. Yes it is. No, really, it is. And top of the list for the month of September is a report on Grooveshark being removed from Google’s Chromecast smart TV thing. Yes, you may indeed think it surprising that it was ever on there at all. But it’s not now.
Also popular was the news that YouTube star Michelle Phan had counter-sued Ultra Records over claims that she had used music from its catalogue without permission. Far from it, she said, she had both sought and received the go-ahead from the label before using any music in her videos.
In at number eight, and well worth a look if you somehow failed to read them last month, are Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams’ depositions in the ongoing legal action brought against them by Marvin Gaye’s family over alleged plagiarism on ‘Blurred Lines’. Thicke admitted that he’d been “high on vicodin and alcohol” at the time the song was being written and hadn’t really had much involvement. Williams, meanwhile, when asked how Gaye had influenced him, said: “He’s an Aries. I respect him”.
And hey, it’s nice to see the new CMU One Liners column creeping in at number ten, isn’t it? That’s our little daily round-up of the other brief stories of note.
But before we look at the full top ten, which five features were most popular last month? Well, at numbers one and three were two columns by Dan Le Sac – one on Royal Blood, one on Bestival – at two and four respectively were interviews with writer Jon Savage and Jack Daniel’s Senior Brand Manager Michael Boaler, and at number five was an Approved column on Andy Stott.
