Third Tame Impala LP is go

Tame Impala’s main man Kevin Parker has likened the band’s apparently underway third LP, the follow-on to this year’s ‘Lonerism’, to a pizza with hardly any toppings, so that’s nice.

Talking it up, or rather, down, to Triple J, he says: “I’m gonna try to make it a bit more minimal this time; only use what’s needed. Instead of a supreme pizza, where you just throw everything on, it’s kind of just gonna be like a margherita. I don’t want to over-fill it”.

Fascinating. On his mode of making an album this time around, Parker adds: “I record every day, and I’m trying to stop myself. I like the idea that I could wait until I’m in a situation where I could do it all in a month. This time I don’t wanna spend two years every day doing it. It did my brain in. It worked out for the best, or whatever, but I want to preserve my sanity”.

And if you’re picking up a hint of fatigue in all that, you’re quite right. Parker has also told Billboard he’s so ‘over’ all the awards and acclaim Tame Impala are constantly having heaped upon them, saying after winning a hat-tick at this year’s ARIAs: “With each award we get, we become a little bit more overrated. That’s what it feels like. It’s like the next album is going to come out and, well, I’m not sure what people will be expecting”.

And having read all that nonsense, nor am I.
