Tyler, The Creator not a terrorist, says American Airlines

Tyler, The Creator

Tyler, The Creator may no longer be banned from entering the UK or New Zealand, but he’s still not the most welcome traveller in some places. Or so he reckons. The rapper yesterday claimed to have been deemed a terrorist by American Airlines.

“Ha, I’m on [American Airlines’] no fly terrorist list”, he tweeted. “What the hell did I do?”

Several fans pointed to a line in his 2011 track ‘Yonkers’, in which he threatens to “crash that fuckin airplane … that B.o.B is in”. Others suggested it was because he released an album with the word ‘bomb’ in the title.

It turned out it was neither of those things. There was no reason at all, because American Airlines says it has no such list.

“American does not have a terrorism watch list”, said a spokesperson for the company. “That list is controlled by the FBI”.

Yeah, sure, but maybe Tyler was just vague on the specifics when referring to the list. If you were told you couldn’t fly by American Airlines because you’re a terrorist, you might think it was an American Airlines specific list that your name was on.

The spokesperson also had an answer for that theory though, saying: “Since Tyler, The Creator is flying with us today and was on one of our flights, the tweet is not accurate”.

Well that clears that up then. And all it took was what appears to be some sort of data protection or privacy breach. We still don’t know what Tyler was banging on about, of course. But does it matter? Probably not. I’m glad we had this little chat.

TL;DR – a man isn’t on a list
