US mainstream live revenues down 17%, according to Pollstar

As previously reported, opinion is divided as to whether the US live music sector is tumbling down and the mainstream concert industry bubble has well and truly burst, or whether the number of tours being cancelled this summer isn’t actually any more than normal, it’s just us media types are noticing more than usual.

But either way, the mainstream live sector in America certainly isn’t generated as much cash as in recent years. According to US live industry trade mag Pollstar, the hundred biggest American tours in 2010 grossed $965.5 million in the first half of the year, which is 17% or $196.8 million down on the same period last year.

According to Pollstar’s stats, Bon Jovi, James Taylor and Carole King, Eagles, Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney have been the most profitable touring acts in America this year.
