Alternative electronic artist (as they say) Porter Robinson has only gone and signed one of those worldwide record deals with Universal divisions Astralwerks and Virgin EMI, who will now release the producer’s “eclectic collection of original, transformative, and immersive songs”. Well, I say now, actually it’ll be sometime next year. They’re still adding the immersity.

Confirming the deal, Astralwerks GM Glenn Mendlinger told CMU: “Porter is ushering in a new generation of electronic music that will evolve the genre into uncharted places. He crafts songs with exquisite precision, creating music that is both intimate and infinite. Further, his ideas for integration of music, artwork, visuals and live representation illuminate the breadth of his artistic vision”.

Meanwhile, and noting the Virgin record label’s recent 40th anniversary festivities, Virgin EMI UK A&R man Jason Ellis added: “In its 40 year history Virgin has had a long association with seminal electronic artists. We’re proud to continue that tradition with the signing of Porter, without a doubt one of the most talented producers of his generation. We look forward to helping him realise the many diverse creative concepts he has in store; his debut album will both surprise and inspire”.
