Weezer announce new album details

Just like we promised, Weezer have officially announced the upcoming release of their new album, ‘Hurley’, after the news of their signing to Epitaph Records emerged via Twitter last week. The first single from the album, entitled ‘Memories’, is out on iTunes now, or you can stream it on their MySpace page, if that makes you feel better.

Frontman Rivers Cuomo said of the band’s new record deal: “So far we’ve had a really good creative collaboration with [Epitaph boss] Brett Gurewitz and the other people at the label, and I’m looking forward to collaboration with other like-minded alternative music fans at the label”.

Meanwhile, Gurewitz said: “I’ve been a fan of Weezer from the beginning, and I’ve loved all their records. So it’s amazing to find myself working with them on the new one!”

Explaining the album’s slightly unusual cover (a photograph of actor Jorge Garcia, who played the character of Hurley in ‘Lost’, which you can stare at in bemused amazement here), Cuomo told Spinner: “I just loved this photo of Jorge Garcia – it just had this amazing vibe. We didn’t want to do a fourth self-titled record and we knew people would refer to it as ‘the Hurley record’ even if left it without that title, so we just called it ‘Hurley’. No words are on the cover because all we wanted was his amazing face”.

Here’s the album’s tracklist:

Hang On

Brave New World
Time Flies
All My Friends Are Insects (deluxe edition only)
