Williams says no Blurred Lines with Gaye track
By Chris Cooke | Published on Monday 16 September 2013
Pharrell Williams has commented, briefly, on the litigation he is involved in against the Marvin Gaye estate over the allegations Robin Thicke’s controversial hit ‘Blurred Lines’, which he produced, co-wrote and guested on, lifted from Gaye’s ‘Got To Give It Up’.
As previously reported, Williams, Thicke and fellow Blurred Liner TI all sued the Gaye family last month seeking court confirmation that their song doesn’t borrow from any of Gaye’s works in anyway. According to Billboard, Team Thicke previously offered the Gaye family some sort of settlement after the plagiarism allegations first emerged, but they refused to accept it.
Asked about those allegations at a New York Fashion Week event last week, the super producer told The Associated Press that Gaye “is the king of all kings, so let’s be clear about that”, but: “If you read music, all you have to do is read the sheet music. It’s completely different. Anybody that plays music and reads music, just simply go to the piano and play the two. One’s minor and one’s major. And not even in the same key”.
