Once Upon A Time In Shaolin

Wu-Tang have set up a website to run the auction for their single copy album, ‘The Wu – Once Upon A Time In Shaolin’. Remember that? Yeah? Remember it? No? Oh come on.

Well, forgetful types, as we previously reported, the 31 track, 128 minute record – which was finished last year and has so far had just one public airing (there was talk of a playback tour, though that doesn’t seem to have happened) – will become the exclusive property of whichever person places the highest bid to buy the lone CD and the box that contains it.

As for the 7,298,912,999 people in the world who don’t get ownership of the record (and who didn’t attend the aforementioned playback), well, there might be an opportunity to hear the album in 88 years time, if you’re all able to stick around (mortally speaking) until then. Because, according to the record’s producer Cilvaringz, at that point the lucky bidder will get the actual copyright in the recording as well as physical ownership of the CD, and could choose to release the album.

Says Cilvaringz to Forbes: “After 88 years the copyright, which includes public and commercial rights, automatically transfers to the owner of the work. [But] it will still be his or her choice at that [point] to release it or not release it”.

So rich people, don’t delay, register to buy today. The rest of you suckers, remember to keep an eye on the release news section of CMU circa 2103 for further updates.
