Zara Larsson tops first Official Trending Chart

Official Trending Chart

Zara Larsson has topped the first UK Official Trending Chart with her single ‘Lush Life’, which was at number sixteen on last Friday’s main singles chart.

As previously reported, the new weekly countdown aims to highlight tracks that are rising up the singles chart but which are not yet hits. Based on the first four days of each week’s sales and streaming data, its launch comes as the wider adoption of ‘on air, on sale’ means that fewer tracks are entering at the top of the main chart.

Larsson’s track was originally released last summer, and entered the top 100 at 88 six weeks ago, following a new push in December. “I’m so excited to be number one in the first EVER Official Trending Chart in the UK”, she told OfficialCharts.com. “I love the UK – it’s amazing to be getting so much love”.

The Trending Chart should provide a promotional boost to newer and less established talent, and, indeed, the first ever top ten features new, underground acts like, erm, Jason Deulo, Ellie Goulding, Coldplay, Sia, Selenz Gomez and someone called Adele. The biggest rise is Sia with ‘Cheap Thrills’, which sat at 122 on last week’s chart and is on course to make it to number 40 this Friday, based on Monday’s sales data.

One name that does stand out in the top ten is Viola Beach, who were tragically killed in an accident in Sweden at the weekend. A campaign to get their debut single – ‘Swings & Waterslides’ – to number one in the main chart was launched by fans following their deaths. They appear at number nine on the first Trending Chart, with the OCC predicting that the track will break the main top ten this Friday.
