ENTWISTLE LAID TO REST
The funeral of Who bassist John Entwistle took place yesterday in his hometown, the very un-rock’n’roll Stow-on-the-Wold. The private service was attended by friends and family members including Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, and current Who drummer Kenny Jones. The Rev Colin Wilson said Entwistle was now "reunited with Keith Moon up ‘there’ making great music. I think he would want us all to be strong, determined, unafraid of the future, ready to meet every challenge, to believe in ourselves and in each other, and to try to keep believing in God, even if that seems rather difficult at the present time." Mourners and fans gathered outside the church to catch a glimpse of Entwistle's coffin being carried inside the church. A larger memorial service for fans is due be held in London later this year.

V FESTIVAL HOPEFUL OF TRAVIS PERFORMANCE
Organisers of the V2002 festivals have told reporters they are "very hopeful" Travis will still headline their Stafford and Chelmsford events in August, despite the injury to drummer Neil Primrose. Festival organiser Bob Angus told NME.com: "We are sure that we speak along with the V festival and Travis fans when we wish Neil a very speedy and full recovery. We are very hopeful they will remain on the V line-up and will be keeping everybody updated as and when we know." The band’s management have confirmed Primrose will undergo an operation this morning. "Medical staff advise that Neil shall hopefully be discharged from hospital this weekend and the doctors are confident that he will make a full recovery but it is unclear at this stage how long this will take. Neil would also like to thank all the fans for all their good wishes,” the statement continued. “He would particularly like to express his gratitude to all the doctors and nurses in the hospital who are making his stay as comfortable as possible."

WORLDPOP CUTS BACK ON WORLD DOMINATION
The pop music portal and former UK Top 40 sponsors Worldpop.com have scaled down their operations - cutting jobs and abandoning plans to expand in Australia and New Zealand. The company announced around 10 redundancies, mostly from editorial positions, early this week. Insiders say the company is focusing more on the lucrative mobile marketing and content services side of the business. Mobile services company iTouch, backed by Tony O'Reilly's Independent News & Media, bought Worldpop last December after the struggling company was put into administration. New bosses announced plans to turn the brand into a global force at the time, but these expansion plans have been dropped for the time being. Content of the UK site will now be generated by a freelance team.

Answer to Wednesday's CMU pop quiz:
Last night John Lydon appeared on Graham Norton to remind everyone that he is still very much completely insane. Name three (music) projects that Lydon has been involved in since the death of his band-mate Sid Vicious.

Initially Lydon formed Public Image Ltd which he only disbanded in 1993 to work on his solo career. The same year saw him work with Leftfield on their track ‘Open Up’ for which he gave his distinctive vocal talents an airing, and in 1996 Lydon took the Sex Pistols back on the road again.
