TRAVIS OUT OF V FEST
V festival promoters have confirmed that, due to Neil Primrose's spinal injury, Travis have had to pull out as headliners at V2002 the Chemical Brothers will take the main spot on the V stage, leaving the headline slot on the NME stage empty, with a new act expected to be confirmed on 2 Aug. As was well publicised at the time, Neil suffered multiple fractures in his vertebrae after hitting his head and being knocked unconscious in a swimming pool following a festival appearance at Belfort, France. Although Neil is showing a better improvement than expected, his surgeon has told him he can't drum for at least 8 weeks to avoid aggravating the injury. The rest of the band had already said they would not perform without him. The band told reporters: "Whilst we are hugely disappointed not be appearing at this year's V2002 festival, we feel that under the circumstances it would be wholly inappropriate to replace Neil while he continues to recover. After weeks of uncertainty, we are relieved to learn that Neil is expected to make a full recovery. We are sure Travis fans will agree that without Neil Primrose, Travis is incomplete."

Dominic McGonigal, director of strategy and business development at PPL, told us: I am delighted to have signed this fifth reciprocal agreement we promised the indies that we would start unlocking this international income and that is exactly what weve done. This really is excellent news for our independent record company members. PPIs CEO Dick Doyle added, We are pleased to now be in a position to give practical support to our independent members in securing their UK licensees. We intend to continue this process with other main markets as soon as possible."

BOWIE STORMS MOBYS AREA2
The Moby music festival Area2 got critical acclaim this weekend, though intense heat affected overall ticket sales. It was as an eclectic a mix as youd expect from Moby with Ash, Busta Rhymes, Carl Cox, and John Digweed amongst those performing. But word is that it was David Bowie, appearing directly before Moby himself, who stole the show, as he has a habit of doing these days. He opened with a near-acappela version of Life on Mars and followed it up with a good mix of tracks from new album Heathen and classics like Ashes to Ashes and China Girl. His encore featured Let's Dance and new track Everyone Says Hi.

BRITNEY STORMS OFF STAGE
Britney caused more rumours to fly when she walked off stage after just five songs at her Mexico City show, the final stop on her Pepsi-sponsored North American tour. Mid-way through song number five she simply said: "I'm sorry, Mexico, I love you. Bye, Mexico City's Milenio newspaper reported. With that the lights went up and the audience many a tad annoyed were asked to leave. It was unclear whether the show would be rescheduled or whether concertgoers would get a refund, and record label Jive hadnt commented by the end of yesterday. The concert shenanigans followed trouble with the Mexican press on her arrival last week. "I got off the plane and everyone was driving really recklessly around me, all the paparazzi. And they almost hit our vehicle and they kept on getting out, she said after her outburst at the airport, "But I love my fans here, I embrace them completely. It was the paparazzi that I was mad at. Rumours are that Britney is suffering from stress and exhaustion and is expected to take time off later this year.

BARD & BPI EXPLAIN GUIDANCE STICKERS
The record retail organisation has sent posters to all of its member stores to explain to customers what the BPIs parental guidance stickers mean. The poster and racking artwork can be downloaded from the BPIs website (www.bpi.co.uk)
