MOS DEFS SWEET SOUNDTRACK
Mos Def has been talking about Brown Sugar (Extra Sweet), the first single to be released from the soundtrack to the movie Brown Sugar in which Mos also stars. "The song is just a up-tempo party joint," he told reporters. "Get the girls dancing, get the party moving. I love doing songs about women, and women love to hear about themselves in songs, so it was good to do. And Faith [Evans] just adds a real element of class to it. I was glad to be able to get a chance to work with Faith." As well as starring in the film and making the track, he is also directing the video. "I'm really encouraged to see what was in my head come out and look good and not be like, 'Oh, I was trippin','" he said. "I'm having a real good time. Today has been my toughest day because I'm in it. Yesterday I wasn't in it at all. There are scenes where I'm driving, I can see the monitors nearby. The most difficult thing for me is when I'm in it, not being able to see every shot and having to wait for the playback. The soundtrack to Brown Sugar has a US release of 24 Sep and the movie opens there on 11 Oct. Mos has also just signed to play Half Ear (an explosives expert with a hearing aid!) alongside Mark Wahlberg, Ed Norton and Charlize Theron in F. Gary Gray's remake of The Italian Job. Music wise, other than the soundtrack, he is working on an album with his band Black Jack Johnson, which may well be completed this year.

MORE PIRATED CDS SEIZED
Pirated music CDs and copying equipment worth in the region of £12.5m have been seized during a police raid on a factory in the Philippines. Seven Indonesian and five Chinese workers being arrested. The countrys government have made a number of public statements stressing they intend to destroy the prolific music pirates based in their country (The Philippines was named as one of the worst offenders in the global league of the production of counterfeit goods). In July authorities publicly steamrollered two million pirated CDs and DVDs in a high-profile message to counterfeiters that the crack down was real. In fact the government are putting so much importance on their crack down that Philippine President Arroyo visited the scene of the latest raid herself, congratulating the police and telling reporters: "this raid is not only a great help to the members of the entertainment industry who are being cheated, but also our reputation in the world".

LOVE'S OTHER LEGAL ACTION POSTPONED
After reports that relations between Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and Courtney Love have improved, despite the continuing legal dispute over the Nirvana back catalogue (released or otherwise), Loves other major legal wranglings have been put on hold. At a court hearing on Tuesday the contract-dispute case between Love and the Universal Music Group was postponed at the request of lawyers for both sides, who wish to continue settlement talks. If no agreement can be reached, the case should finally go to trial in the LA Superior Court on 3 Sep. The dispute is over whether or not Love should complete her seven album contract (according to which she owes five albums) now her record label Geffen has been sold to the Universal Music Group.

DEATH IN VEGAS TAKE VIDEOS TO NEW LEVEL
Death in Vegas are taking making videos to the next level by recording a series of star studded short films to accompany each of the tracks on their forthcoming album Scorpio Rising, due for release on 16 Sep. The videos will be released on a DVD in the new year. DiVs Richard Vegas told NME.com yesterday: "Every film has a range of actors, directors and artists involved. Its really exciting but Im not allowed to say anything. Because its on a DVD we wont have that thing where we have to conform to MTV rules for the short films." Although the list of actors is a secret, the NME reckon Hollywood bad guy Dennis Hopper ('Speed', 'Easy Rider', 'True Romance' and currently on the TV show '24') will appear.

RADIO COMPANY RAISE NEW FUNDING
Radiogoss (www.radiogoss.co.uk) has reported that cash-strapped Forever Broadcasting (who own the Juice stations in Liverpool and Brighton amongst others) have raised nearly £1m from "executive directors and certain founder shareholders" which it says will leave it "with sufficient cash resources for the foreseeable future". The cash injection follows a shortfall in turnover for the present year of "about £400,000". The company has also confirmed it will implement a number of efficiency measures, and is optimistic of forthcoming advertising sales. But radiogoss reckons efficiency drives mean job cuts, and that ad sales cant be that good because the group has engaged an Australian company to put a strategy in place which flogs off unsold airtime cheaply to new advertisers.
