COXON STILL IN BLUR
Graham Coxon has denied rumours rife in yesterday’s press that he has quit Blur after a row with Damon Albarn. Graham, currently with the rest of the band writing and recording their next album, told NME that he's known Damon since he was 12 years-old and any arguments they have are quickly resolved. He went on to confirm he is still with Blur and is enjoying making the new album.

COLDPLAY: CLASSICS AND COVERS
Coldplay took the London Forum by storm last night as their new album headed for number one in the album charts and they prepare for an arena tour later this year. They opened the sell out gig with ‘Politik’ and put in excellent renditions of ‘Yellow’, ‘Trouble' and ‘In My Place' among others. They then continued with their new trend of covering the songs of musicians in the audience. In New York the Gallaghers were in the crowd so they covered ‘Songbird’, last night with Ash in the audience they played a version of ‘Shining Light’, followed up by a brief rendition of Westlife’s ‘Flying Without Wings’ (that one just for fun, no Westlife members were spotted in the crowd).

Ash meanwhile performed a cover of the Monkee’s hit ‘Daydream Believer’ this morning as they played live for the Xfm Breakfast Show at the Ocean club in Hackney.

VIRGIN TURN OFF STREAMS
Latest goss from radiogoss (www.radiogoss.co.uk) – Virgin Radio’s Paul Jackson has saved the cash strapped station some money by turning off two of its online music streams - Virgin Party and Virgin Modern Rock. This despite the fact Virgin have made much of the fact their webcasting has been among the most successful in the world and many felt the non-stop streams were a key reason for that success. Oh well…

BEDINGFIELD WORKS WITH CAREY
Daniel Bedingfield is writing a song for Mariah Carey, and there’s a chance he will guest vocal on it. Bedingfield told reporters: "We have the same record company and they asked me to write a track for her which I have. It might be a duet. It will be for her next album". He’s been working on tracks for a number of other artists, explaining "If I have spare tracks that I don't want to use for my album because they are too diverse I might offer them to someone else.” That’s apparently how he ended up working with H and Clare. Although some exciting collaborations are round the corner rumours of a Madonna duet seem to be false. "Madonna’s label Maverick wanted to sign me. There was a rumour that we were going to do a duet but that wasn't true. I know she definitely wanted to sign me".

POP IDOL USA REACHES FINAL STAGE
Viewers of 'American Idol' last night selected 20 year-old Kelly Clarkson and 23 year-old Justin Guarini to go through to the final of the US version of the show taking place at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre next week. The audience seemed to agree with judge Simon Cowell who said prior to voting: "It's very simple. America will have got it right if Kelly and Justin are on the Kodak stage next week." Cowell is tipping Clarkson to win comparing her to Mariah Carey.

COX SIGNS FOR ANOTHER THREE YEARS AT RADIO 1
BBC Radio 1 has signed a three year deal with Sara Cox which will probably see her hosting its flagship breakfast show for some time to come. The deal is understood to be worth more than £1m, and is quite a coup for Cox showing station management paid little attention to the well publicised slump in listeners in the last set of RAJARs. On announcing the deal Cox told reporters: "Radio 1 is the best place I have ever worked. The breakfast show means such a lot to me, especially the listeners who I love, so I'm over the moon". A Radio 1 spokesman added: "Radio 1 is the perfect home for an original talent like Sara Cox so we are really pleased that she has signed to the station for a further three years."

Whether the love affair between Cox and the station will continue if her TV pilot Born Sloppy is commissioned by Channel 4 as its new Friday late show remains to be seen. Chris Evans fell out with Radio 1 bosses when he used his radio show to plug his Channel 4 TV show, and then demanded Friday mornings off to help him prepare for TFI.

Meanwhile Cox’s predecessor Zoe Ball starts a new drive time show on London station Xfm this Monday at 4pm. The much hyped new show will run from Monday to Thursday, Ms Ball being allowed that Friday break by the alternative station.
