MONDAY 1ST DECEMBER

I BLAME THE PARENTS RECORDS
In a world where about 5 million new bands seem to be going online every week (we haven't counted, but it's something like that), one useful way we've found for navigating all that new music is to track down one of those great little independent record companies that are out there and see what they're releasing.

This works because, not only do the people behind these labels spend half their lives seeking out great new bands, but the fact they've put their own money into the artists they've released means they must be confident they've found something special.

To celebrate this fact, and help you find some of these great little labels, CMU and MUZU have teamed up to discover, champion and profile a different independent record company each week. This week, I Blame The Parents Records.

We first came across I Blame The Parents when founder Martin Brimicombe thrust a pack of his CDs and 7"s into our hands at an edition of the CMU Social; which is, by the way, one of our favourite ways of discovering new record labels.

We quickly learned that, despite being less than a year old, this little indie had already released eleven singles, an output I think it is fair for us to call "pretty damn prolific". On finding out Martin's main motivation - to provide "a springboard to bigger and better things" and "encouragement for artists to keep doing what they are doing" - not to mention the fact he'd unearthed some great new bands already, we decided Martin and IBTP Records just had to be our first Label Of The Week.

If you go online now you can find out more about I Blame The Parents. We chat to Martin about his label, plus he provides us with a quick guide to each of the artists he's released so far. You can also check out the I Blame The Parents MUZU channel for yourself. Go here...

www.cmumusicnetwork.co.uk/labeloftheweek

PUT YOURSELF FORWARD FOR LABEL OF THE WEEK: We are always eager to discover (or rediscover) new independent labels, whether you're a long established enterprise or a brand new outfit. If you want to be considered for the 'CMU Label Of The Week' title, send all your details to [email protected]. If we like what we hear we'll tell you how to set up a MUZU channel of your own, and what we need to feature you in the Label Of The Week slot. You can set up a MUZU channel right now at www.muzu.tv.

LINDA AND RON'S DAD
Taking their name from a play on Linda Ronstadt, Washington's Linda and Ron's Dad bury themselves in experimental sampling on the four tracks available on their MySpace. Often similar sounding to hip hop influenced electronic beat makers Ratatat, first song 'Real Shit Mystikal Rap' is a slow burning, jazz fusion loop for the first one minute forty, until a solo rhyme cuts in just after, that rides over freakish synths until the end. An EP is already advertised with tracks made entirely out of Frank Zappa cuts, but more enticing is the 7" available as part of the Journal Of Popular Noise, which is also handily linked to on their MySpace.

Here we go everybody, it's time for the CMU Track Of The Year vote to really get going. Thanks for all the votes that have been submitted already. We'll be featuring some of your votes so far here in the Daily each day until w/c 15 December, when we'll announce the overall top ten and let you vote a second time, for your favourite from that list. Today, to get things going, two of Team CMU submit their votes...

The Bug - Murder We (feat Ricky Ranking)
I haven't been able to get enough of this track, or the album it comes from this year. Ricky Ranking paints a very bleak picture of London in 2008, and The Bug makes it all the darker with his creeping drums, wobbly bass and ominous bleeps, but it all makes for dubstep perfection.
Andy Malt, King of CMU, UnLimited Media

Florence And The Machine - Dog Days
Having already been blown away by her eccentric live performances and almighty voice, Florence's new single 'Dog Days' has to be my track of the year. Starting off acoustically, and with a contradiction of both gentle and powerful vocals throughout, the song builds up to a pounding crescendo- perfectly showcasing Florence's versatility.
George Stone, Queen of Marketing, UnLimited Media

If you haven't already, get your vote in. Just email us your favourite track released this year and a couple of sentences saying why you love it to [email protected].

EUK SHOULD START DISTRIBUTING AGAIN TODAY
It's been revealed that eUK has not made any deliveries or taken any orders since it and sister company Woolworths went into administration last Wednesday. CD sellers supplied by eUK include Sainsbury, Asda, Morrisons and Zavvi.

However, the Entertainment Retailers Association says that the company's administrators Deloitte do plan to keep the company operational as it reviews the options for the future of the CD/DVD distributor, and that they therefore hope orders and deliveries will resume today, ensuring stocks don't run short for what is seen as being one of the big chart battles of the year, with both Take That and Britney's new long players released this week.

ERA Director Kim Bayley told reporters this weekend: "Retailers are determined that fans will not suffer because of EUK's problems. We are working around the clock to ensure adequate supplies reach stores in time for Monday. Britney versus Take That is shaping up to be an epic chart battle and we must make sure we do not run out of stock. It is vital that the current logjam in the system is unblocked as quickly as possible. EUK is currently neither accepting orders nor making deliveries, but we are hopeful it will be open for business by Monday. This is the busiest time of the year for fans buying music and video so we hope everyone concerned pulls out all the stops".

There is a double issue for the record companies and DVD publishers, because they need to see their releases in the supermarkets and on the high street in time for Christmas, but will be wary of handing over product to eUK without upfront payment, given the future of the company - and its ability to make good on debts - is far from assured. Bayley urged the record companies to do everything they can to ensure shops continue to be stocked.

It's not clear how much the record industry could lose out if eUK was to go under, ie how much the distributor currently owes record companies. With the financial position of eUK, or, more to the point, its sister high street retail business Woolworths, having been unstable for some time now, some entertainment companies had already withdrawn some of the distributor's credit facilities, however its though not insubstantial sums are still owing.

According to Billboard, film distributor Metrodome Group has revealed it is owed about £320,000. A statement from the company issued at the end of last week reads: "Entertainment UK was one of the largest customers of the company, and, at the present time, the board estimates that it owes the Company approximately £320,000. The directors are unsure as to the recoverability of this sum and are seeking clarification on its recoverability and effect on the Company. Shareholders will be kept appraised of developments".

WINEHOUSE DIVORCE TO PROCEED, SAY REPORTS
According to reports, Amy Winehouse has met with lawyers to arrange a divorce from her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. The singer, as previously reported, was rumoured to be determined to bring the marriage to an end following Fielder-Civil's early release from prison, where he was, of course, serving time after being convicted of assault and attempting to pervert the course of justice. The couple haven't seen each other since his release.

It sounds like it's Winehouse (assisted by dad Mitch, obviously) that is the proactive one in seeking the divorce, but Fielder-Civil has reportedly been saying he's going to let her go, because he's a bad influence on her. He told the News Of The World that he had introduced her to various drugs, and taken her down a road "she would never have gone down" without him. The tabloid quote him as saying: "Now I have to let her go to save her life. I am not abandoning her. I am doing this out of love".

He continues: "I introduced her to heroin, crack cocaine and self-harming. I feel more than guilty. The first time Amy took crack she asked me, 'Can I try a bit of that'. Crack is the nastiest drug. It makes you paranoid, unreasonable, edgy and totally suspicious of everyone. And you can get hooked on it straight away. But I was weak and an addict and I let Amy take some. I didn't stop it from happening. For that I take full responsibility. It became something we did as well as heroin. And then our lives fell apart".

Fielder-Civil is, of course, presently in rehab, under the conditions of his early release.

HOUSTON DENIES RUMOURS OF REUNION WITH BROWN
Whitney Houston has released a statement attempting to quash rumours that she and ex-husband Bobby Brown are getting back together. A report in the Chicago Sun Times last week claimed that the pair had been seen out in Georgia looking as though they might have romance on their minds. Houston's publicist Nancy Seltzer, however, says it's "a complete fabrication".

The couple brought their fourteen year marriage to an end in April last year, of course. Houston has custody of their daughter, Bobbi Kristina.

WINEHOUSE DRUGS COUPLE SENTENCED
Johny Blagrove and Cara Burton, the couple previously tried for supplying a number of celebrities, including Amy Winehouse, with drugs, were due to be sentenced on Friday.

The pair's activities were, as previously reported, brought to the attention of the authorities by the release of that secretly shot video of Winehouse apparently smoking a crack-pipe at her flat. It was Blagrove and Burton who filmed the singer, and subsequently sold their footage to The Sun.

Blagrove pleaded guilty to to counts of offering to supply Class A drugs and one of offering to supply Class B, whilst Burton pleaded guilty to two counts of offering to supply Class B drugs.

ELEANOR RIGBY PAY SLIP GOES FOR £115,000
That 97 year old pay slip signed by E Rigby, who may or may not have been the inspiration for Beatles song 'Eleanor Rigby', has sold for £115,000, a not insubstantial sum of money, though quite a bit less than some had predicted (though a lot more than the £14 Ms Rigby was signing for on the salary document). The seller was charity Sunbeams Music Trust, whose founder was sent the pay slip by Paul McCartney in 1990 after she wrote to him asking for donations.

The document auctioned was a salary register from Liverpool City Hospital and features the name and signature of E Rigby, a scullery maid who has signed for her monthly wage. It's thought this E Rigby is the same as the Eleanor Rigby who is buried in a churchyard in Woolton, Liverpool where a young Lennon and McCartney sometimes hung out.

Macca originally said he made up the name 'Eleanor Rigby' by taking the name of actress Eleanor Bron, who had appeared in Beatles film 'Help!', and crossing it with the name Rigby, which he saw on the sign of a shop in Bristol. However, when the aforementioned grave came to public attention he later admitted he may have been subconsciously influenced by the real Eleanor Rigby's grave, which he may have seen as a teenager.

The document was sold at the Idea Generation Gallery in Shoreditch last Thursday.

BRANDON FLOWERS THINKS KILLERS SET TO STEAL U2'S CROWN
Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has said that he thinks his band will be bigger than U2 eventually, and sooner than you might think. He told The Daily Telegraph that "U2 are unbelievable, but they're getting old. It feels like it's time".

He adds that although The Killers are not yet a stadium band, he expects the group to become one in the long run. He says: "I saw Paul Weller slagging off Fleetwood Mac. He referred to it as 'stadium rubbish'. Well, I'll take Fleetwood Mac any day. That's just my preference. We wanna see where this will take us. It doesn't make any sense to place restrictions. We write these songs as human beings, and they affect us, and we put them out there in the hope that they will affect other human beings, that they transcend any limitations. It doesn't have to be mindless".

He continued: "It's not all gold and glitz. There are universal themes, and if you can connect to them with brains and heat and do it on a big scale, it can be a really powerful thing... to bring people together, band and audience, and create moments of clarity".

GALLAGHER SAYS OASIS AS BIG AS STONES
And in related news, Noel Gallagher has said that Oasis are as big as The Rolling Stones now. He told the crowd at a recent gig in the US: "Everybody knows who we are. You have to see us in league with The Rolling Stones now. Everybody's heard of the Stones, everybody knows what they sound like, everybody knows what they do".

Sad, isn't it?

SINGLE REVIEW: Portishead - Magic Doors (Universal/Island)
Ten years. Ten whole years. Did we miss 'em? I'm sure I would have if I was old enough to remember them first time round. But now they're back, and unlike some extremely tasteless comebacks - coughgunsnrosescough - they have an uncompromising yet charming album under their belts: 'Third'. Yet all of this happened and was said in April. As we reach those cold winter months, could Portishead be attempting to squeeze a little more glory out of their comeback all these months on? Probably, but this is understandable, especially since 'Magic Doors' is such an incredible song - fractured drumming overlays disturbing drones as they culminate into a piano riff that sounds as if it was raised from the gates of hell. Yet underneath it all some beauty bleeds in, the characteristic Portishead touch. Whether or not they're clinging to the success of 'Third' with this release is irrelevant - let the music prove that to you. GB

DOHERTY WANTS TO REFORM THE LIBERTINES
Ah, this much touted reunion hasn't been cluttering up your Daily for a while, has it? Yes, there are new reports that Pete Doherty is planning to reunite The Libertines. Doherty reportedly attended a Dirty Pretty Things gig in Paris to try and persuade former bandmate Carl Barat now was the time to get the old band back together. Dirty Pretty Things, of course, plan to split at the end of their current tour. However, according to the Mirror, Barat says he'd need assurances Doherty was really serious about a Libertines reformation before agreeing to take part. One of those sources told the tab: "Carl thinks it might work, but he needs to be 100% sure Pete won't let him down again before he signs up".

ROLF HARRIS APOLOGIES FOR 1957 LYRICS
Rolf Harris has apologised for a verse of his 1957 hit 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport', which went: "Let me Abos go loose, Lou, let me Abos go loose, they've got no further use, Lou, So let me Abos go loose". The problem, obviously, is the use of the word 'Abos', a derogatory term for Aborigines. Harris hasn't performed the verse since 1960, but says he regrets its inclusion in the first place, but notes it was a common expression at the time.

Harris: "It was a mark of the times, done totally innocently with no realisation that you would offend at all. I was just trying to create a fun song for a bunch of Aussies who were drinking themselves stupid on Swan Lager in London at the time".

Harris' comments follows an official apology by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to the Aboriginal peoples earlier this year, in which he apologised for the discrimination they suffered at the hands of previous Aussie governments.

LIVE EARTH INDIA IS CANCELLED
Perhaps unsurprisingly, that previously reported Live Earth India concert planned to take place in Mumbai next weekend has been cancelled in response to the rather horrific terrorist attacks that have taken place in the city. The concert, linked to Al Gore's eco-concerned Live Earth movement, was due to be headlined by Jon Bon Jovi and Roger Waters alongside some local music stars. Organisers said in a statement yesterday: "Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are saddened to announce that Live Earth India has been called off".

ALBUM REVIEW: Various Artists - Soma Compilation 2008 (Soma Recordings)
Soma's 2008 compilation provides more chilled out loveliness from the finest purveyors of the Scottish electronic dance scene; following in the footsteps of its predecessors, Soma's 2008 compilation is packed with big room bass and deep harmonics. With tempered restraint, the twelve song mix offers a fine display of talent at the Soma label, perfectly balancing a unique blend of melodic intrigue and energetic house grooves. Adam Bayer is first up, remixing Slam's 'Staccato Rave' in a truly distinct fashion, opting to keep the pace of the original but build upon a groove based platform instead, and turn into something exciting and inventive through the use of digital effects. Orlando Voorn's mix of 'The Journeyman' is equally ambitious; whereas the original Octogen version is chilled in its own reflective mastery, Voorn creates something quite monstrous out of it. It becomes a dance floor killer with the added weight coming from a much stronger low-end presence. Low-end is also added to Mark Broom's mix of 'Girls Don't Like Me' by Portland based producer Let's Go Outside. It grooves restlessly with some funky edits and interesting cuts. Credit where credit's due, the compilers have really done an excellent job as the CD reaches its climax; Harvey McKay's '69', a sombre and haunting track backs on to the upbeat slayer that is Silicone Soul's 'The Pact', which powers the compilation to its close. It makes for thrilling listening and is truly the mark of a quality compilation. SJS

UNIVERSAL JAPAN LAUNCH NEW GLOBALLY FOCUSED LABEL
Universal Music Japan has announced it will launch a new imprint label on 1 Jan. The new division, to be called Delicious Deli Records, will be internationally focused, and will look to find Japanese artists who are established abroad but who are yet to properly launch their careers at home, and domestic talent which they believe has the potential to do well elsewhere in the world.

The new division's MD, Kimitaka Kato, told Billboard: "We named the new label Delicious Deli Records because of a wish to deliver fresh and attractive music which is created in a cross-cultural atmosphere. Teaming up with artists who share the same vision as us, we would like to deliver good music that is loved by people across borders and generations".

Universal Music already have five domestic imprint labels in the Japanese market.

THE METRO CLUB TO CLOSE NEXT MONTH
As the long anticipated closure of central London venue the Astoria actually gets close, there was confirmation last week that neighbouring venue Metro will also disappear.

As previously reported, the block of buildings that houses the Astoria, sister venue Astoria 2 (or whatever they call it these days) and Metro is being demolished as part of the Crossrail project, to enable a big new building to be built which will house an all new Tottenham Court Road railway station. Management at Metro have told Music Week they have now received a notice from Transport For London that the venue will be bought by compulsory purchase order under the Crossrail Act, and that they will have to be out by late January.

The trade mag quote the venue's Paul Tunkin thus: "Although the rumblings of Crossrail have been going on for many years, it has come up far quicker than any of us could have expected. At present we are looking for new premises to relocate the venue to but have yet to find one suitable. Ultimately it is another nail in the coffin for central London's live music and club scene. And when you are about to be served 28 days notice just before Christmas you have to ask why not give people more time to relocate? Why destroy successful businesses when in a recession? Why the hurry? Where is the West End heading?"

The final club night will take place at the Metro on 17 Jan, and the venue will close three days later.

HMV TO SUPPORT KIDS CANCER CHARITY
HMV have announced that CLIC Sargent will be their 'charity partner' through to 2010, meaning the children's cancer charity will benefit from fund raising activities held across the retailer's network of HMV and Fopp stores. Funds will also be raised by events for staff and suppliers - such as the recent Annual Golf Day and the planned HMV & Fopp Inter-Regional 5-Aside Football.

Confirming his firm's chosen charity, HMV boss Simon Fox told reporters: "I am delighted that HMV and Fopp are working so enthusiastically with CLIC Sargent - not only to help raise much needed funding, but also to increase awareness of the wonderful and vital support this organisation gives to children and young people with cancer".

INDUSTRY WOULD LIKE TOTP TO RETURN
MusicWeek readers have called for the BBC to bring back 'Top Of The Pops'. I'm not sure the BBC care what MusicWeek readers think, but in an online poll 91% of respondents said the Beeb should bring back its weekly pop show. I don't think they asked whether Fearne Cotton should be allowed to present a reborn TOTP, but MusicWeek readers are a sensible bunch, so let's assume 100% would say "no".

The poll followed comments by a BBC executive to the effect that it was basically inevitable that the legendary pop show would return to our screens one day, in the same way both 'Doctor Who' and 'Top Gear' had been reborn and reinvented. After those comments the Beeb were keen to stress there were no current plans to bring back TOTP, though the Corporation had originally said there'd not even be a Christmas TOTP this year (the Christmas edition had continued even though the weekly show had been axed), but then backtracked and announced not only a Christmas special, but a New Years special too.

NO MORE ROSS-STYLE PAY DEALS AT THE BEEB
Multi-million pound pay deals at the BBC, like Jonathan Ross's more-controversial-then-ever £6 million a year contract, are a thing of the past. Or so says BBC 1 Controller Jay Hunt, who says mega-bucks pay deals for even the biggest stars on the Beeb's networks are unlikely in the future.

Ross's deal has always been controversial, of course, and has come under particular criticism since his suspension for the whole Sachsgate affair. Big pay deals for certain individuals are especially unpopular as the BBC looks to cut costs elsewhere, having not won the licence fee settlement they had originally hoped. Media commentators also point out that it is increasingly hard for the BBC to justify paying big money for talent when such deals are less and less common in the commercial TV and radio sectors, where the slumping ad market has hit budgets hard.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Hunt told reporters: "My reputation in this industry... is as one of the stingiest women in television. I genuinely think the climate around those sorts of deals has changed. In talent negotiations generally, we're in a better position than we've been for quite a long time, because the world is a different place".

Hunt was also asked about Ross' return to the BBC in January, which she admitted would be "a challenge". She told the paper: "I think he will come back as a slightly different sort of individual. The challenge now is how we bring Jonathan back to BBC One and give him support and the platform to re-establish that relationship with audiences".

INDEPENDENT TO MOVE IN WITH THE MAIL
It's easy to see where those rumours came from that the Daily Mail was planning on buying The Independent. That isn't true, but the struggling Indie is going to leave its Docklands offices and take office space at the Daily Mail's offices in Kensington, which also houses other Associated titles like the Mail On Sunday, Evening Standard, London Lite and Metro.

It was known that the owners of The Independent, Independent News & Media, were keen to cut costs by outsourcing some of its administrative operations to a rival newspaper, and that Associated may provide those services, tough for the Indie to actually move in with Associated has come as a bit of a surprise.

Although Associated will be just landlords and service providers to the Independent and Independent On Sunday, some of the broadsheet's already dwindling readership may have a problem with the paper they associate with forming even just a business alliance with the Mail, a paper with a very different editorial policy.

But the CEO of INM UK said the deal would safeguard the future of The Independent, and as an independent title. He told reporters: "This move will transform the prospects of the Independent titles. We will have immediate cost savings when we move offices and take maximum advantage of the resources and services offered to us by our partners at Associated to create better and more commercially viable newspapers while staying true to the editorial values we cherish".

TERRY CHRISTIAN LOSES BBC MANCHESTER CLAIM
According to the Manchester Evening News, former 'The Word' presenter Terry Christian has lost a lawsuit he brought against BBC Radio Manchester. The DJ sued for unfair dismissal after the station chose not to renew his £100,000 a year contract earlier this year. However, the radio station argued Christian was a freelance contractor, and was therefore not protected by a bulk of employee legislation. Noting that he worked for TalkSport and promoted his autobiography at the same time as presenting shows on BBC Manchester, Judge Murray Creed agreed with the Beeb and ruled against Christian.

NORTON DENIES POSSIBLE EUROVISION GIG
Graham Norton has denied he is being lined up to front the BBC's coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest. Norton's name was mentioned after Terry Wogan indicated he might stop presenting the Beeb's coverage of the legendary Euro-song fest in protest at all that dodgy voting that goes on in Eastern Europe.

But with Eurovision organisers planning on introducing a jury system in parallel to the phone vote in a bid to counter any political public voting, some reckon Wogan will, in fact, be in Moscow come May to cover next year's big Contest.

Asked if he was being lined up to replace Terry on the show, Norton told reporters that no one at the Beeb had mentioned it to him, adding: "It's a really hard gig to take over from Terry because he is genius at it and has made it his own. I think they are changing the voting a bit so I'm sure he'll be back".

CHART UPDATE
If Beyonce was a boy, she might be able to stay at the top of the singles chart for more than a week. But then, she might still struggle to compete with the four men who make up Take That and their new single, 'Greatest Day'. Yes, Take That are now number 1 and there's nothing you can do to stop them.

Not much else has changed in the singles top 10 this week. Britney has made a little step up from 9 to 7, although I would expect to see 'Womanizer' go even higher next week, despite the fact that her first UK appearance in four years on Saturday's 'X Factor' was a bit of an anti-climax. Speaking of 'X Factor', those finalists with there charity single are down from 2 to 8 in this week's chart. Akon is the only new face in the top 10, apart from Take That, moving from 14 to 10.

Moving on to new entries lower down the singles chart, brother and sister duo and former X Factor contestants Same Difference go in at 13, following their appearance on the show last weekend, which proves the old saying, you can lead a horse to water and you can probably then convince it do drown itself without much effort.

McFly's new double A-side single 'Do Ya/Stay With Me' only manages to make it to 18, Rhianna and Justin Timberlake jump from 51 to 24 with 'Rehab', Take That get their second entry in the chart with 'Rule The World', which rises from 46 to 27, George Sampson goes straight in at 30 with "Get Up On The Dance Floor/Headz Up', Mariah Carey gets the bottom end of the chart a bit Christmassy with 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' moving from 45 to 37, and Madonna's 'Miles Away' is the final new entry at 39. 'Chinese Democracy' by Guns N Roses is out of the top 40, three weeks after its release, sitting this week as 41.

But have Guns N Roses fared better on the album chart than they have on the singles chart? Well, the answer is a definite yes. But have they gone to number 1? No, that honour goes to The Killers. GNR are sitting snugly at number 2. But where's the album by a former X Factor contestant and/or someone who appeared on the previous week's show? Don't worry readers, it's okay, both bases are covered in one hit at 3, with the debut album by Rhydian completing this trilogy of new entries. All of this activity moves the previous week's X Factor success, Leona Lewis' 'Spirit', from 1 to 4. Closing off the top five is the final new entry in this week's top 10, those singing priests, The Priests, with their debut album, 'The Priests'.

Outside the top ten, Kanye West's '808s & Heartbreak' is a new entry at 11, TV talent contest winners (not X Factor this time, though, they won 'Last Choir Standing'), Only Men Aloud go in at 16, The Salvation Army go straight in at 20, Alesha Dixon makes it to 26, John Barrowman is in at 35 and Coldplay manage to slip in at 38 with their new EP, 'Prospekt's March', aided (or not) but some ill-fitting rapping from Jay-Z on a new version of 'Lost!'.

'LAST CHRISTMAS' THE MOST PLAYED FESTIVE SONG
More charts, and royalty collecting society PRS has published a list of the most played Christmas songs from the last five years. And it's topped by Wham! no less. Glad to see The Pogues and Kirsty at number 3. And isn't it funny that radio stations are still playing the original 1984 version of 'Do They Know It's Christmas' when they also have that excellent 2004 version with Dizzee rapping and Joss warbling to choose from? Not to mention the Stock Aiken & Waterman version. Anyway, here's the top ten...

1. Wham! - Last Christmas
2. Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas? (Original Version)
3. The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York
4. Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
5. Bruce Springsteen - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
6. Jona Lewie - Stop The Cavalry

MYSPACE TAKE BACK MOBILE'S URL
A Montreal-based indie band called Mobile have reportedly had their MySpace taken away from them because they had the rather nifty URL www.myspace.com/mobile and the social networking conglom is planning on launching a mobile service.

The new service will actually use the URL www.myspace.com/myspacemobile, but the powers that be at the Murdoch-owned website obviously worried that people would go to the band's MySpace page by mistake once their mobile service goes live.

Needless to say, the band aren't impressed. Hypebot quotes their manager, Don Affleck, thus: "[We said] 'this is a fucking joke right?' [But] nope, apparently Team-Myspace (fuck ya!) came down and rained fire on Mobile's MySpace URL because they are launching their "mobile" platform whose URL is: www.myspace.com/myspacemobile. The band's URL WAS: www.myspace.com/mobile - so they're not even using the band's actual URL!! They just couldn't stand to lose any eyeballs during their marketing roll-out of their wonderful new service!!! So now, after two years of the band authentically building and nurturing relationships online, Team-Myspace click-fucks the band out of their URL. NOW I understand why music lovers AND musicians are migrating away from MySpace and onto Facebook, Bebo etc - TRUST - there can be no trust in a place that can takeover one's address at will".

KINGS OF LEON IN-FIGHTING RUMOURED
The Sun claims that there's a critical amount of in-fighting going on chez Kings Of Leon, and it's said to be a result of the fact that the band's Caleb Followill has been drinking excessively, causing tension between him and brothers Nathan and Jared and cousin Matthew which led to a row which led to a physical altercation.

The tabloid reckons that Caleb's been sent to Coventry by the other three, and that the group's label are panicking, as their tour is set to start in Brighton on Monday. A source is quoted as saying: "The others have warned Caleb over and over again that they weren't happy about his drinking but he carried on regardless. The lads have always fought but they usually sort it out the next morning. Things are completely different this time. The label is deeply concerned that if they don't sort out their differences the tour won't go ahead".

DIDDY COMBS TO BE NEXT JAMES BOND
Well according to him, anyway. Sean P Diddy Puff Daddy Combs has said that it's time to have a black Bond, and that he's the man for the job. According to The Mirror, he's spent £500k making an audition tape, filmed in the South of France, in which the tuxedo clad rap-type appears in a helicopter surrounded by girls.

He told the tabloid: "This is my audition tape for the next James Bond. There is a black president and it's time for there to be a black Bond".

LUDACRIS TAKES RECORD BREAKING SHOWER
Ludicris has taken part in a Guinness World Record, the largest group shower ever, as part of his involvement with environmentally focussed TV show Battleground Earth, which also features rocker Tommy Lee.

Talking about the show, the rap star explained: "Saving planet earth is hard. It's all about reducing, reusing and recycling. We had a load of different events, racing solar powered vehicles and we got in the Guinness Record book for the largest group shower. We had a 1000 people".

And you'll be happy to hear that they all kept some clothes on.

SUGABABES BLAME POOR PROMOTION FOR POOR SALES
The Sugababes have said that they think their latest album 'Catfights and Spotlights' has sold poorly because it hasn't been promoted properly. The group's Heidi Range told The Daily Star, "the sales have been disappointing but I don't think it is a reflection on the album's quality. The problem is the promotion, I don't actually think our fans know we've even got an album out."

Well, you know, you're a bit old, now Heidi - all of 25 - so perhaps the label thinks you're past it. I still love you, though, if it means anything.
