From Wednesday to Saturday next week, the Reeperbahn Festival will return to Hamburg. To help navigate this, we've put together this here playlist of ten acts it would not be a bad thing to see more>>

APPROVED: KATY B - 5AM
New single '5am' seems a bit more like she's stepping back into the limelight, compared to 'What Love Is Made Of', which was released earlier this year. Still, as she was for much of her debut album, in the club, this track sees closing time drawing closer and Ms B looking for "some lovin like valium" to "calm me down". Though the instant hook of the chorus that those lyrics come from leaves you hoping she doesn't find any. Sorry Katy more>>

AEG DECIDES NOT TO CALL KATHERINE JACKSON AS LEGAL BATTLE REACHES ITS CONCLUSION
Lawyers for live entertainment giant AEG Live have decided not to force Katherine Jackson back into the witness stand as their legal battle with the Jackson family matriarch reaches its conclusion, according to CNN.

As much previously reported, the Jackson family are suing AEG claiming that the live firm should be held liable for Michael Jackson's death in 2009 because, as promoter of the late king of pop's 'This Is It' venture, it paid for Conrad Murray, the doctor convicted for causing the singer's death through negligence. AEG counters that Jackson himself recruited and managed the medic.

The long-running trial is now slowly reaching its conclusion and, after a week's break, the final presentations are expected to be made this week. Legal reps for AEG indicated that one of the final witnesses they would call to the stand would be the 83 year old Katherine Jackson herself, mainly to question her about the mega-bucks damages her family is likely to push for if the jury decide the promoter is liable for Michael Jackson's death. Presumably they wanted to portray the Jackson family as mainly being in it for the money.

Though Mrs Jackson has already been in the stand during the long-running court battle, back in July, and performed well; so much so the Jackson's lawyers didn't seem too bothered about their client being forced to testify again. Possibly because having lawyers for a multinational corporation badgering an elderly woman who insists she sued simply "to know what really happened to my son" would play in the pop family's favour.

Though AEG possibly decided on an alternative course of action because of limits on what can actually be said about possible damages in the courtroom. They are expected to now finish up their presentation on Wednesday, possibly showing video footage from the deposition of Jackson's son Prince before then. Team Jackson are then expected to present a rebuttal to some of AEG's arguments before the jury begins their deliberations.

RHAPSODY LOSES 30 STAFF, INCLUDING CEO, AS NEW INVESTORS TAKE CONTROL
Since its acquisition of Napster in 2011, the Rhapsody company has controlled two of the very original subscription music services, both of which successfully outlived countless other early entrants to the digital music market, but both of which are now struggling to stand out in an increasingly competitive sector.

So it's perhaps no surprise to hear that a restructure is underway at the digital firm, which will result in new leadership and a cull of about 30 staff members. The changes coincide with an entity called Columbus Nova Technology Partners becoming a "significant shareholder", and the company is putting a positive spin on things, saying the new investor and restructure will help fuel further growth.

CNTP's Jason Epstein and Andrew Intrater join the Rhapsody board as part of the finance vehicle's investment, and are likely to have considerable influence moving forward. Incumbent CEO Jon Irwin is stepping down, but will continue to advise the company, and CFO Adi Dehejia is out too.

As the search for a new CEO begins, Epstein told reporters: "Rhapsody International is poised for tremendous growth. We've recently launched the Napster music streaming service in fifteen additional countries in Europe, rolled out a partnership with MTV in conjunction with German wireless carrier ePlus and have a strong pipeline of product innovations and global partnerships in place. We are grateful to Jon Irwin for his leadership contributions and also want to thank those employees we've had to let go today for their hard work and commitment to Rhapsody".

SKY FERRIERA AND DIIV'S ZACHARY COLE SMITH ARRESTED ON DRUGS CHARGES
Sky Ferreira and DIIV frontman Zachary Cole Smith were arrested at the weekend on a variety of charges, including possession of heroin and ecstasy, it has emerged.

The Daily Freeman reports that the pair were stopped by police after the pickup truck they were travelling in, driven by Smith, broke several traffic rules.

A police check showed that the licence plates on the truck were stolen and that Smith was wanted by police in relation to a previous violation of traffic laws. Smith was also found to be carrying 42 small bags of heroin, while Ferriera was found to be in possession of ecstasy.

In all, Smith was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of possession of stolen property and one count of aggravated unlicensed driving. He was released on $2500 bail. Ferriera was charged with possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, and released on $1500 bail.

CHER REFUSES WINTER OLYMPICS GIG OVER RUSSIA'S ANTI-GAY LAWS
Cher has said that she has refused the opportunity to perform at the upcoming Winter Olympics, due to host country Russia's controversial anti-gay laws.

As previously reported, the country's 'gay propaganda' laws make it illegal to 'promote' homosexuality to minors. Madonna and Lady Gaga are both accused of having contravened the laws when performing in Russia last year. It has also been said by one of the key writers and proponents of the law, Vitaly Milonov, that gay athletes and attendees of the Winter Games could face arrest if they are open about their sexuality.

In an interview with Macleans, Cher said: "I can't name names but my friend called who is a big oligarch over there, and asked me if I'd like to be an ambassador for the [Winter] Olympics and open the show. I immediately said no. I want to know why all of this gay hate just exploded over there. He said the Russian people don't feel the way the government does".

THE KILLERS DETAIL GREATEST HITS LP, RELEASE NEW M83 TRACK
As per the revelation they made yesterday, that big 'thing' The Killers have been teasing of late is, in fact, a 'greatest hits' compilation. Albeit one featuring a pair of new tracks - 'Just Another Girl' and, as half-anticipated, an M83 collaboration titled 'Shot At The Night'.

'Direct Hits' will be released in various formats, not least a 'deluxe' edition including a DVD and five-disc vinyl LP, on 11 Nov. 'Shot At The Night', meanwhile, is available to buy on iTunes now, or you can watch the video here (or both. Or indeed neither).

KOBALT APPOINTMENTS, SIGNINGS
The Kobalt Music Group has announced the appointment of Sue Drew to the LA-based role of GM of Creative & Acquisitions for the US. In the role, she will help manage the firm's growing publishing roster as well as identifying possible catalogue acquisitions and new administration clients in the film and television domain.

Confirming the appointment, Kobalt chief Willard Ahdritz told CMU: "I have known Sue for a number of years and have been impressed with how professional and service-minded she is. I've always thought she would be a perfect fit for Kobalt, and I'm very excited that that day has come".

Elsewhere in Kobalt news, the publishing side of the group has secured a worldwide administration deal with Maroon 5, and will now be responsible for managing the rights in all of their songs. Wonder what it would take to persuade them to accidentally delete a few?

NEW HIRES AT MUSICMETRIC
Data experts Semetric, the company behind Musicmetric, has announced a number of new hires following that previously reported £3 million investment round earlier this year. The new recruits will be involved in selling and further developing the firm's artist analytics platform Musicmetric Pro.

Amongst the hires are former EMI and Clear Channel exec Emily Tabak as Director Of Marketing and former West One Music Group exec Rachel Menzies as Director Of Sales, while on the development side Andrew Sommerville becomes Director Of Data Science, Raymond Ottrun becomes Software Engineer and Andy Sykes becomes System Operations Manager.

Confirming all this, Semetric CEO Gregory Mead told CMU: "Central to our continuing development at the forefront of digital music analysis, and expanding our global reach, is having the best and brightest of new staff. Our five new hires will boost our sales, marketing and software development, and will be instrumental in assisting the growth and development of our ever extending product portfolio".

PANDORA PLANNING NEW SHARE SALE
Following the appointment last week of new CEO Brian McAndrews, Pandora has now announced it will issue a new batch of shares, ten million to be precise (or up to twelve million if there is demand).

Largest existing shareholder Crosslink Capital Inc also plans to sell four million of its shares. So good news for anyone desperate to own a mug full of Pandora stock. Anyone?

Well, the digital firm reckons it could net up to $279.4 million from the share sale, providing lots of funds to pay artists for all their music, and to pay lobbyists to try and change US copyright law so they can pay less to artists for all their music. Good times.

RDIO ANNOUNCES ALLIANCE WITH US RADIO FIRM
As Clear Channel puts ever more effort into competing in the digital music space with iHeartRadio, even exploiting its AM/FM business to get better rates, another major radio player in the US, Cumulus Media, is instead going digital via an alliance with Rdio.

Under the deal, Cumulus will take a stake in Rdio parent company Pulser, and will then promote the streaming music service across its network of radio stations, and sell advertising around the digital set up's freemium option in the US.

Rdio presumably hope the deal will help them gain further traction in the US market, both in terms of subscribers and advertisers, while for Cumulus it gives the radio firm a head start in digital versus setting up their own iHeartRadio competitor.

WU-TANG CLAN LAUNCH 20TH ANNIVERSARY BICYCLE
Wu-Tang Clan have teamed up with The State Bicycle Company to offer a special 20th anniversary fixed gear road bike. Because, er... yeah, because. Well, I suppose even rappers need to get about.

Apparently the company already supplies bikes to the "majority of fixed-gear riders on Arizona State University campus", so you can see exactly why Wu-Tang were so keen to set up this deal. No? Oh, I was hoping you could tell me. Damn.

Anyway, check out the bike here. Hey, why not go the whole hog and pre-order one? It should be with you in November. Hopefully that will then shed some light on it all.
