CMU Approved
Approved: Sophie Beem – Skyline
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 2 February 2016
Aged thirteen, Sophie Beem auditioned for the US version of ‘The X-Factor’, making it through the auditions but no further. The following year she re-appeared in a TEDxYouth video, performing a couple of original songs slightly awkwardly. Then last May she signed a management deal with Beyonce’s Parkwood Entertainment.
Having managed to ensure that those early appearances don’t define her later career, she emerges under Parkwood’s guidance with a strong debut single in the form of ‘Skyline’.
Co-written by Jeremy ‘Kinetics’ Dussolliet and Tim ‘One Love’ Sommer, whose main claim to fame to date is the chorus to B.o.B’s ‘Airplanes’, the new track perhaps shows the artists its trying to emulate a little too plainly. Nonetheless, Beem takes the track and works hard to make it her own.
