The Jezabels

Although I didn’t manage to catch any of their performances at The Great Escape, by the end of the weekend I almost felt like I had. It seemed almost everyone I bumped into by Saturday evening had seen them and wanted the opportunity to rave about them. The benefit of playing multiple shows at a festival like TGE is the speed at which word of mouth can spread, and by their second show on Friday, people were being turned away as the venue swelled to capacity.

Formed in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, the band have so far released three EPs, with an album due later this year. Their grandiose indie sound is one that’s well-trodden, but when pulled off with such flair, that hardly seems to matter – a play through their well-stocked SoundCloud and YouTube profiles reveals a catalogue of strong songs such a new band really has no business possessing. If these tracks from their EPs are the warm up, then the album really should be something to look forward to.
