Beats talking to tel cos about streaming service
By Chris Cooke | Published on Tuesday 9 July 2013
Beats is talking to various US mobile operators about them bundling its in-development super new streaming music service into their phone packages, according to sources.
As previously reported, the Dr Dre/Jimmy Iovine-led overpriced-headphones-peddler is busy developing a new streaming platform, with Topspin founder Ian Rogers in charge and Trent Reznor advising. It’s thought the new service will launch later this year.
In an increasingly competitive streaming music marketplace, an alliance with a tel co would make sense, allowing users to bundle payments in with their phone bills. It is thought AT&T is amongst those in conversations with Beats, though negotiations are at an early stage.
