Beyonce curates compilation of Lion King-inspired songs

With Disney’s current programme of remaking all of its classic animations with live action and CGI nonsense – like it thinks doing proper hand-drawn cartoons for all those years was a big mistake – it’s now the turn of ‘The Lion King’ to be ruined. Although we are getting a compilation put together by Beyonce out of the project, so that’s something.
Beyonce stars in the new remake and has curated the album ‘The Lion King: The Gift’, which features new songs recorded by a collection of still-to-be-announced US and African artists. It also includes a new song performed by Beyonce in the film called ‘Spirit’.
“I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film”, says Beyonce. “It is a mixture of genres and collaborations that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat”.
“I wanted to put everyone on their own journey to link the storyline”, she goes on. “Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a new contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me”.
