Domino Publishing signs Fat White Family

Fat White Family

Last Friday was both a good and a bad day for Fat White Family, the greatest and most unwashed of CMU’s Artists Of The Year circa 2013. On the ‘good’ side, Fat Whites gave in (only slightly) over their previous insistence of being “fiercely independent” amidst the mercenary hit-making biz of music, and signed to Domino Publishing.

On the bad side, the band was barred from playing this year’s Summer Series festival at London’s Somerset House, having been deemed “unsuitable” with regard to the historic site’s “reputation”. I guess Somerset House isn’t into the whole ‘smearing in margarine’ thing FWF do at a lot of their shows. But so what? You win some, you lose some.

I’d say it’s mostly Somerset House’s loss, to be honest. Also, now that Fat Whites have this publishing deal, they can smear themselves in finest shop-bought butter, the best that not very much money can buy. Death to margarine!

Ahem. Anyway, Domino Publishing HQ states that the band are working on an LP to run on from their 2013 debut ‘Champagne Holocaust’, and latter singles ‘Wet Hot Beef’ and ‘Touch The Leather’.

And this is a glimpse of what Domino is letting itself in for, c/o Fat White Family’s “insane” (apparently) show at this year’s SXSW festival. Which I’m scared to watch all the way through.
