Elton John is convalescing post an operation to relieve him of an inflamed appendix. John, who due to his ill health was unable to play several live dates in July, not least a headline billing at AEG’s Barclaycard British Summer Time, is said to be recovering at his home in Nice, France, having had the op at Monoco’s Princess Grace Hospital last Thursday.

Writing via his official site, he said: “I would like to thank the literally thousands of people who have sent me get well cards and messages over the past two weeks. Your well wishes have touched me deeply and will play a big part in my recovery. I cannot wait to see you all and thank you in person when I resume my concert schedule later this year. In the meantime, please know that I consider myself a very blessed man to have such caring and considerate fans”.

John is still set to be back on stage in early September, when he will play live at a special event celebrating the new BRITs Icon Award, he being its first ever recipient, and all.
