Former Lostprohets members re-emerge as No Devotion
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 2 July 2014
Former members of Lostprophets – Lee Gaze, Luke Johnson, Mike Lewis, Jamie Oliver, and Stuart Richardson – have announced their new project with ex-Thursday vocalist Geoff Rickly, No Devotion. The band will release their debut single, ‘Stay’, on 21 Jul, and embark on a brief UK tour the same week.
Lostprophets, of course, split up in the wake of the arrest and eventual conviction of frontman Ian Watkins on child abuse charges. Discussing that period of their history, bassist Stuart Richardson said: “We didn’t know if we would ever make music again. [Or] if people would look us in the face. Everything felt like it was over. We didn’t know what else to do. We just wrote music. I didn’t know if anyone would ever want to hear it, I didn’t know if anyone ever would hear it. I just needed to occupy my brain. We just needed this”.
On how he became involved, Rickly added: “To be honest, I never really listened to Lostprophets, but with this music, we speak a common language. You don’t really grow out of punk, you grow with it. To my mind, post-punk was about taking a more sophisticated approach to that sound, and I think we all have a shared respect for that era of modern music. I had always liked these guys in passing: they’re funny and self-aware. I didn’t think it was fair, what was happening to them. And, well, the music was too good to pass up”.
No Devotion will perform live on the following dates:
22 Jul: Cardiff, CF10
23 Jul: Manchester, Sound Control
25 Jul: London, Islington Academy
26 Jul: Glasgow, ABC2
