Hermitude win Australian Music Prize
By Chris Cooke | Published on Friday 8 March 2013
Hip hop outfit Hermitude were declared winners of the Mercury-style Australian Music Prize for 2013 in Sydney last night. The duo’s fourth album ‘HyperParadise’ took the prize, beating other shortlisted long players from the likes of Flume, Tame Impala, The Presets, Grand Salvo, Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors, Liz Stringer, Daily Meds and Urthboy.
One half of Hermitude, Angus Stuart, said on winning the prize: “Wow, I wasn’t really expecting this”, before thanking his label Elefant Traks, which he said was “the most incredible label we could possibly hope for. It’s like a family. We have barbecues where we all hang out. It’s the most close-knit community”.
