Leeds promoter Donald Keys, of house night Nest, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $1 million in order to sue Terrence Parker on behalf of all promoters the Detroit DJ has stood up in recent years.

The campaign on Indiegogo is actually a tongue-in-cheek response to one set up by Parker recently, asking fans to help him to raise money to cover debts incurred from failing to turn up to shows he was booked to play. Yeah, you can see why that might rub some people up the wrong way – though Parker has so far raised over $2000 of his $20,000 target.

Explaining his “debt relief” campaign, Parker says: “I need to raise money to help cover debts owed to promoters due to poor DJ tour management and expenses related to my current DJ tours. My once stellar reputation has been damaged because of many broken or empty promises made which left me unable to travel and perform at several shows; disappointing my fans and friends. I have been working very hard on my own trying to recoup the monies to restore the promoters. While I have successfully paid in full refunds to many promoters, there are other who I still owe”.

This claimed goodwill, and vague blame shifting, has been disputed by a number of promoters, prompting Keys’ counter crowdfunding campaign onn his Indiegogo page, Keys mimicks Parker’s own words, saying: “I need to raise money to help cover debts owed to me and other hard working promoters due to the incompetence of Terrence Parker DJ Extraordinaire which dates back to 2012. My once stellar reputation has been damaged because of con man who made empty promises which left me and others out of pocket by trying to pull wool over peoples eye’s saying he was unable to travel and perform at several shows; disappointing his fans”.

Before you decide which campaign you’d like to donate to, you may want to note that while a $1000 donation to Parker will get you ten 60 minute DJ mixes and free guestlist entries to his shows for life, the same amount handed over to Keys will get you a “candlelit dinner with penetration”.

Your choice.
