Original Village policeman suing new group

By | Published on Tuesday 10 February 2009

The original policeman in The Village People, Victor Willis, has launched a lawsuit attempting to prevent a new incarnation of the group from using his likeness and voice.

Willis, who co-wrote the group’s biggest hits, says that his voice and pictures of him are still being used to promote the band. He’s seeking at least $1million in damages plus a judge’s order to say the current Village People set up can no longer use his image or voice.

The companies on the receiving end of the suit are New York based Sixuvus Ltd, who are promoting the new Village People, the William Morris Agency, Can’t Stop Productions, and a number of venues who have hosted the group.
