The ten most-read news stories on the CMU site in October 2014

Japan Night

The most-read news story on the CMU website in October was a report on a fairly recent announcement from the Japan Night music export programme. With two Japan-based live shows now under its belt, plans were announced at this year’s Tokyo International Music Market conference for a series of concerts around the world in the run-up to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Also featuring highly last month was the sad news of the death of music publisher Felix Hines, who passed away during this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event. The wife of the Phoenix Music International exec, Vicky Hines, has since announced plans to set up a charitable trust in his name.

After that, we find a story on 50 Cent’s hopes that his legacy will see him remembered as someone who devoted his life to helping others. Appearing at number three in our list, it also earns the accolade of being the most popular CMU story to feature a ‘Grange Hill’ reference in October 2014 (the other one being this).

Elsewhere in the top ten there’s also a look at iTunes’ falling music sales revenues and what that might mean for the record industry, plus a report that I’m pretty sure means we’ll not be invited to the upcoming BBC Music Awards.

In CMU features this week, most popular was an Approved column on the new single from Marina And The Diamonds, followed by another on a new Fiona Apple track which forms the theme tune to new TV show ‘The Affair’. Completing the top five most-read features are an interview with writer Jon Savage on a new collection of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis’ lyrics and notebooks, a Beef Of The Week column on Taylor Swift hatred of her UK fans (well, hatred of or marketing strategy for, you decide), and an interview with Japanese rock band Vamps about their hopes for overseas success.
