Tomorrowland Brasil cancelled due to country’s “economic situation”

The 2017 Brazil edition of the Tomorrowland festival franchise has been cancelled, it has been confirmed.
In a statement, organisers said: “It’s with heavy hearts that we inform you that Tomorrowland Brasil will not take place in 2017. As always, Tomorrowland wants to give you, the people of tomorrow, the best and most unique experience. Unfortunately, due to external factors we can no longer create the right environment to host a Tomorrowland Festival in Brazil. We will do our utmost best to come back as soon as possible since the love and energy Brazil gave to Tomorrowland was amazing”.
A source at the event’s SFX-owned promoter Plus Talent reportedly told Brazilian newspaper El Nacional: “Brazil’s economic situation, combined with other factors of instability, is too adverse to stage an event the size of Tomorrowland”.
Tomorrowland became allied with SFX in 2013 after the company took a 75% stake in Dutch promoter ID&T, which in turn had a 50% stake in the festival brand. The founders of the original festival in Belgium bought back ID&T’s stake in that event, but committed to collaborate with SFX on a US iteration, TomorrowWorld, and Tomorrowland Brasil.
In the wake of SFX’s bankruptcy earlier this year, both of those international versions of the festival have suffered. The 2016 edition in Brazil went ahead as planned in April, but TomorrowWorld, which was scheduled for September, was cancelled.
