Trumpton creator’s family not impressed with Radiohead video

The family of the man who created golden oldie kids TV show ‘Trumpton’, Gordon Murray, have said they are currently “deciding what to do next” over the recent videos put out by Radiohead to accompany their new single ‘Burn The Witch’.

The Radiohead clips are very much in the style of Murray’s famous children’s shows, though with darker themes and a little of bit of ‘The Wicker Man’ thrown in for good measure. And Murray’s family don’t think that’s a good use of their father’s legacy.

His son-in-law, William Mollett, initially told Pitchfork he wasn’t even aware of the Radiohead video, but later told the Daily Mail: “Radiohead should have sought our consent as we consider this a tarnishing of the brand. It is not something we would have authorised. We consider that there is a breach of copyright and we are deciding what to do next”.

Whether or not Radiohead have infringed any copyrights with their ‘Trumpton’ take-off is debatable, before you even throw in the newish parody exception in UK copyright law, though it will be interesting to see if the Murray family do take this matter any further.
