The Guardian put “you” at the top of its Media 100 list for 2013 yesterday, which is going to look good on your CV. Team Guardian was trying to recognise the increased importance of tweeters and Instagrammers and Facebookers in reporting world events. And if only someone could now invent that app that filters out the liars and hoaxers and idiots, the social networks might just become the primary news network for all.

Away from the big gimmick, the usual mix of tech chiefs, BBC execs and Fleet Street editors dominate the upper part of The Guardian’s annual list of movers and shakers in the British media, which has only a small number of music entertainment players (unless music radio execs are counted) in it this year.

Simon Cowell is the highest ranking music bod, albeit more for his TV ventures, coming in at number fourteen. Interestingly Spotify boss Daniel Ek comes in next at number 45, which is interesting because he is one place higher than the UK boss of Universal Music, David Joseph, making the channel operator slightly more important that the content maker. Meanwhile David Bowie appears at 98 on the back of his surprise comeback earlier this year.
