100 best number ones

A public-voted list of the top 100 number ones, timed to the chart's fiftieth anniversary, puts Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' at number one.

More mad stats – the latest a public voted Top 100 number ones – timed to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the retail charts. The 100, which will be counted down on Radio 2 tonight, features mainly classic track – none of the Top 25 come from the last decade. More recent tracks in the 100 include Kylie Minogue's ‘Can't Get You Out Of My Head’, the Junkie XL remix of Elvis' ‘A Little Less Conversation’, Oasis's Don't Look Back In Anger and U2's Beautiful Day. But Robbie, Westlife and the Spice Girls aren’t anywhere to be seen.

The predictable classics are there: Queen's ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ and the Beatles’ ‘Hey Jude’ form the top three, though perhaps surprisingly Simon And Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ is at number four.

Darren Haynes of The Official UK Charts Company told reporters: "This list of the nation's favourite songs once again shows the enduring appeal of pop classics such as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and John Lennon's masterpiece ‘Imagine’."

The Top 10:

2. John Lennon - Imagine

3. Beatles - Hey Jude

4. Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water

6. Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade Of Pale
