Amazon has launched its own Wikipedia style website which will allow music fans to add to and edit biogs and discographies of artists and bands. Called SoundUnwound, the new service will differ from Wikipedia in that it will be monitored by Amazon editors who, in theory, will ensure entries don't go awry as a result of some dodgy or devious editing.
At beta launch the site will carry Amazon reviews of albums by listed artists, access info from existing online music directory Musicbrainz, tap into Amazon's existing 'if you like this you'll like that' recommendations, and include links to relevant YouTube videos and, of course, Amazon's recently launched (in the US anyway) digital music store.
No word on when a full launch of the service is planned, or if and how it will be integrated into the main Amazon site.
